Geisler & Buzzetti break nearly 4 year old track records Print

Feburary was the month of new track records.  While most of the country is dealing with snow, Arizona and So-Cal racers gear up for perfect racing weather.  Cool air temperatures and bright sunshine bring the best possible time to run fast.  Charlie Buzzetti and Rich Geisler both took advantage to run some fast laps.

Feburary 6,7 Arizona Region visited Firebird Raceway's Main track for the first time in non-night race in years.  Strong compeition mean the nealy 4 year old track record for 2006 was in line to be broken.  Darren Griffith was the old track record holder at 1:12.773 and on had to defend his pace.  Right off the bat it was clear the track and the drivers were fast with multiple racers turn practice laps under  2006 record. By the end of the weekend 4 of the 9 drivers set fast race laps under the old track record. Paluch with 1:12.679, Griffith with 1:12.367, Newmark at 1:12.283 and the new track record went to 2009 Az Champion Rich Geisler with a 1:12.144.  Rich finished with weekend a win and once second place.

Farther west on the same weekend 2009 National Champion Charile Buzzetti armed with a new car set his sights on nearly 4 year old Willow Spring track record held by Jim Marks at 1:37.665 from 2006.  Rain plagued the Saturday sessions, but also ensured cool moist air perfect for making hp on sunday.  Charlie and way with the 944 spec class victory by over 20 seconds and in the process nealy took 1 second of Mark's record with a 1:36.776.
