ImageThe weekend started out with Glen Gormley, Vince Vaccaro, and Jason Boles, setting up to duel it out. Glen was back with a vengeance to show Vince, Darren and Myself he is still Top Dog if not by points then by his pure driving skill! You know what he was! Saturday was incredibly hot and I heard reports of 111 degrees! Qualifying was a little disappointing from a time stand point. Vince and Glen made it the whole session while Jason over heated and came in a tad early. Once again props to NASA Arizona staff for excellent race management requiring us to weigh in after qualifying. Glen and

Vince were clear by at least a 100lbs while Jason was light on fuel and squeaked in at 2617 lbs.

The race started off with USTCC starting behind the NASA AZ Group 2 field. At the time of the race the outside temp was 110 degrees! Due to a last lap mishap in Group 1, Group 2 had to sit on grid for 15 minutes baking in the racecars, not fun. The race began and was not overly eventful, Glen spanked Vince and Jason, Vince pulled off his first 2nd place finish. Congrats to Vince! Jason limped around the track trying to keep his car from over heating and took third or as some people like to call it Last Place! It was also good that Jason took it slow unknown to him until the end of the race one of his new Toyo Tires bubbled and started expanding pulling the bead off the tire. This could have been bad news, but due to Jason's uber slow driving this weekend nothing happened. Thanks to Brain at Chapman Toyo Tires for fixing the problem and taking care of the drivers once again!

Sunday, Darren jumped into the mix with Glen, Jason, and Vince. But once again the Arizona Heat got the best of us. All 4 cars qualified, but after a few laps Darren's hood let loose and would not stay latched, and could not fix in time for the race, and did not race. Glen also decided it was to hot and packed up and went home. This left Vince and Jason on the 944 field! Glen rode with Vince throughout the day to help with line and technique and this resulting in him picking up over a second a lap.

So at 2:30 about the time of the race group 2 start the track/paddock surface Temp was 173.7 Degrees! Grid went much faster as USTCC started in front with a standing start and the NASA Arizona guys started behind on a separate green flag. After our green flag and the USTCC Start something I have heard of and saw finally happen. A Red Flag was thrown right after Turn one as 2 USTCC cars hit and one slammed into the wall and spun into the transition zone between Turns one and Two. The Red Flag was thrown a little late for the second group (NASA Run Group 2) but we were all able to stop in time and avoid any other collisions. The USTCC guys were unharmed, but once again we got to sit in our cars for about 10 minutes again. Props to NASA Staff for quickly getting the race back on schedule and getting started on another fresh and clean start.

Vince took his first 944 victory while Jason took a few laps and hot pitted to wait for the end of the race. He took the last three or so laps and the checker. Congrats to Vince Vaccaro for his first 944 Spec Class win! Also thanks to Chapman BMW and Brian at TOYO for giving a set of tire to the overall first place finisher, DannyFoldes in his Honda Challenge (H4). Thanks Toyo!

This weekend's finish builds Jason Boles' lead for AZ 944Spec region championship and moved Vince into 2nd place dropping Darren back into 3rd for the series.
