For those who still have RA1's, you can keep using them until the end of this season.

April Fool's. No seriously though, yes you can keep racing with the RA1's but just don't buy anymore.

I respectfully disagree, 08 was the year of transition, 09 was supposed to be the year of uniformity for 944 spec. We're already discussing this on the national forum.

I have old RA-1's that I could use too (not fresh, just still somewhat usable), but I have to say that NASA really screwed up here and pissed a lot of people off...

Most everyone already bought R888's because we were forced to, and RA-1's aren't in production anymore, so it's a battle of money and connections to get your hands on a fresh set. That is not "spec" racing at all. People in other spec classes are already scrambling to find a set of RA-1's to save for Nationals, which is really diminishing the value of that event.

And even if RA-1's were readily available, this is still way too late to make a change like that for this season... the majority of us who already bought the inferior R888's shouldn't be penalized by planning based on the clearly stated rules.
