TOPIC: Fuel?

How many gallons are you guys going out with in your races?
I am overweight and guess I can save some more lbs. by running the fuel tank with less fuel than I have been.

that is my big project leading up to nationals. I finished with less than 10 lbs over twice last year but i don't want to cut it that close at nationals.

I dont have it down to a science but I've found that its more than 4 but not 5 gallons during a typical race. I know this because empty my car was 12 lbs under weight last season so it was really important that i had gas in the car. At miller last year my car came in at 2603... way too close, I chugged alot of water at grid and pushed my car rather than let it idle.

I always throw in 5 before a race. 5 gal usally gets me through a 30 to 40 minute race and I run the car about 1/4 tank or less.

I am pretty sure that on my street 944 Turbo they reserve light comes on at 3 gallons left in the tank. It uses the 21.1 gal plastic tank. I never checked that closely with my steel tank NA race car.

I found out that if I put in 1 gal for every 10 min plus 1 gal that I usually had the 1 gal left at the end.

At least the late tank cars will not starve until the very end - they have a great fuel pick up. I've gone out to grid with the fuel light starting to blink (by accident), had it starve 1/2 through the white flag lap in turns, and ran completely out of fuel in the pits, after nursing it through 1.5 laps
