Hi Guys and gals, has anyone else used the new RA-1 tire?

I got a set for last weekend and had them shaved to 4/32". I used two of them Saturday in the rain for three sessions. Then installed the remaining two for Sunday and did three sessions (practice, qualify and race). I did not heat cycle the tires before hand.

The tires seemed to have great grip and did not go off during the 30 minute race. I ran my fastest laps ever at Willow. I have no idea how good the tires are since I did not compare them to an older set. This was also done on a cold day so not any type of real test here.

Just wondering if anyone else has used the new tire and what thier thoughts were.

Hopefully they are faster, last longer and lower priced

Don't appear to be lower priced - Brian quoted me $157 + $15 shipping. Seems to me they went up a bit.

I used them starting in January (shaved 4/32 as normal). Felt great just like the old RA-1. I did burn through 1 tire rather fast, but that I believe was due to my not rotating the tires properly and allowing wheelspin from my open diff to kill the tire. (basicly user error).

The car was much more driveable and I could slide it everywhere for as long as I wanted. Car was consistant from the start of the race to the end.

Life is still the question. I have 12 heat cycles on this set far and other than the used error tire I feel like I have still plenty of life.


Price I paid in Jan was 151 a tire. No shipping for Az, but we do pay sales tax.
