TOPIC: Cold Air Intake on 87

Re: Cold Air Intake on 87 11 years, 10 months ago #15125

Charlie - thanks. I think the precedent has been set for this, so that sounds reasonable. It is possible to run a flex hose through the stock opening to the turn signal, but it does take a lot of abuse if the fender liners are out (and most of them are). Thanks for bringing up the question - we'll look at clarifying this better in the rules in the future.

For everyone else, this is not a blanket dispensation, and please do not start cutting holes in the bumper or bodywork based on this.

Eric, I think we should have some type of understanding on what is ok and what isn't reguarding this item. On Tyler's car we cut a 4 in circle in the panel to let a 3 inch hose run through it to make a straight run to the air box. A very clean install. But is that acceptable ?

Greg, if your setup is similar to Charlie's proposal, you are OK. We will look at defining that a bit better for the long term, but I don't want to shoot from the hip on making a new rule.

Things that are clearly Verboten:
-Altering the exterior sheetmetal or spoilers beyond what is already defined in the rules.
- Cutting out area for weight loss purposes, i.e. significantly larger than needed to accomodate the ducting
- Cutting out enough metal to fail tech due to structural weakness.
