Here are the pictures from my brake caliper rebuild. When I removed the calipers from the car this is how they looked like.

I did a first pass on the sand blaster to remove some of the dirt.

Disassembly of the caliper.

To remove the piston I used some compressed air.

As expected a lot of "stuff" inside the caliper cylinder. The pistons are all in good shape without any corrosion.

I washed the parts with plenty of soap and water and after that used the parts washer. After some cleaning with thinner I applied paint which is better than rust for the heating dissipation. I was going to plate the calipers but it will add more time. Since they are cheap I will buy another set to have it plated once the car is finished.

Put everything back together is very simple on these calipers. Coat everything with brake fluid. To put the pistons back in the bore I used my hands twisting and pressing the piston in. To clean the bores I used some stainless steel polishing compound a piece of cloth and two glasses of wine. The wine should be ingested not mixed with the polishing compound

I re-plated the caliper hardware at home using a small power supply, some chemicals and a zinc anode used on a boat. Not restoration grade but will allow me to reuse the old hardware without have to put up with the rust. Here is my "new" hardware

Here is one of the rear calipers finished and ready to be boxed till I get to put the suspension together in a couple months or so.

Very nice sequence of pictures and great quality, to boot. This helps take the mystery out of brake calipers. Saves money, too. The rebuild kits are much less expensive than rebuilt ones and you know what you have when you are finished.

Thanks for the effort and keep up the great detail.

UPS Freight just delivered a 1984 LSD transmission I bought a week ago on eBay. I still need to decide if I will rebuild this transmission and use on the build or rebuild the 1987. The 1987 one doesn't have LSD which means remove, rebuild and use the LSD from this one on the 1987. Any input will be appreciated. I have a 1986 Turbo transmission as well. From that box the plan is to remove the short 5th.

This weekend I installed the cage on my car. I got the cage from www.hanksvillehotrods.com. Great quality and relatively easy to install. Here are the pictures from the installation process.
