I just came across this manual for the Audi 5000 & 100, which use a nearly identical transmission to our 944's...

www.rrquattro.com/Audi100_GboxManual.html

Page 8 also tells us that we may be able to get the short 5th (0.829:1, same as '88 944 and 924S) from certain Audi 100's.

Weston, the document you found refers to european cars only. The "WV" code transmission was never available in North America. The "Only" Audi with the 0.829 5th gear imported into the USA was the 1984 Audi 4000 Quattro with the "6E" transmission Code. Don't believe the literature that says all 4000 quattro's had that gear. In 1985 that transmission code changed to "US" and had a much lower (numericly) 5th gear. I had thought that some of the 5000's had that gear however on further research they got an 0.86 gear which is not allowed under our rules.

My reccomendation is to call Dave at Dart. He did Eban's and my 5th gears and at the cost of the part it probably isn't worth the effort to purchase an '84 4kq transmission or import a used gear from europe.
