Anybody ever ripped out most of the useless wiring and just wired the necessities (fan, fuel, power, brakes, etc.) using Painless Wiring's fuse block and/or switch panel?

Re: Painless Wiring 14 years, 2 months ago #8402

That's on my to do list for the winter break. I've got the Painless setup in hand already. Here's my wiring diagram (89 chassis but should pretty much work for any late car):

What's the estimated weight savings from reducing the harness?

Thanks,

I'll let you know in December

For me, it is about reliability. This was hammered home when I had a DNF last Saturday from second place due to the plug coming off of my ignition switch. That probably cost me my chance at the championship.

I plan to use high end connectors and simplify everything. The weight savings is icing on the cake.

Complete wiring harness (minus DME to motor wiring), was 33lbs from an '86 car. Replaced it with less than 2 lbs of wires!

Well I can certainly understand your motivation with from a reliability standpoint! And an added 30lb drop in weight to boot sounds like a worthwhile investment from both fronts.
