AND the cap is based on 30 psi air pressure . That adds 2/3 more to the buffer. No RMR car was even close to this number at our dyno day.

This conversation illustrates exactly why the cap is useful. It requires a talented engine builder (who can charge a lot for his superior skills) to get the last 4 or so HP out of a 944 head.

My $350 head rebuilds (OK the last one cost ~ $500 with new Turbo valve springs) from "Ron's Machine Shop" in Sterling, IL, have never failed me in 6 years of racing, 3 endurance racing seasons, 9 hour enduros, etc. They are quite capable of making HP that will push the new cap, but clearly not 144HP. These last 4+ HP cost roughly a $2,000 premium over a standard rebuild. This is not an engine builders class. Obviously, we can't keep people from spending money, but we can make it uneccesary to the greatest degree practical. Guys should be able to patronize any decent local machine shop and and run at any level in this series. Spend the $2K on 3 weekends of racing (or 1/2 on a Traqmate) and make yourself a better driver - that is what this series is about, and will be about moving forward.

I think we've established all we can about this in the preceding 20 pages. The cap has is moving forward. The series directors will work on the details, and I encourage racers to move forward with plans to make their cars compliant for 2013.

So who has this mythical 144 hp engine?

Mine was 143 on a dyno of unknown SAE calibration, smoothing factor etc. that has a history of reading high.

Please dont use that unconfirmed number for comparison, it is misleading.

All engines, unless built in your garage by you personally are professionally built.

90% of all Spec engines fall into this catagory.

Is there power in the head? YES. A whole bunch? NO.

You will need a good valve job to get to 138hp.

Charlie, it is not just your motor, or even just John M. who can do this. Others have not been as public about this, and I respect their privacy, but they exist. We didn't make this rule based on any one example, or person. You have made your example public, so it has been discussed here. That is all. You have options if this is untenable to you.

Eric, I am not sure if I saw this or not so I'll ask. Are we going to submit a dyno sheet at the beginning of the season to our race director to show that we are in compliance with the cap?
