In regards to the balance shaft delete, I've heard that when the balance shafts are deleted the car will indeed run well but vibrates more. Wouldn't this vibration do the same thing as when the shafts are not in tune? Nuts and bolts would loosen up as well as fuel rail cracks. Would this not be the case???

Also the person without balance shafts would have an advantage.
Their motor would have less rotating mass and be able to rev faster.

My personal experience with the balance shaft (belt) delete is no vibration difference above about 2,000 RPM. Below that it s a very minor difference.
In the two years I ran my car like this it did not have any fuel rail issues. That car was an 85.5 and may still have the same fuel rail. Tyler Palmer now owns the car so maybe Greg can chime in.
The main reason to do this would be for a car that cannot make the desired HP cap.
There is a rotating mass difference but it would be minor. The HP difference is about 3-5 rwhp.
There is no reason for the cars that can reach the HP cap to do this mod.
The 87 and later cars have a heavier wheel (about 2lbs/wheel) and it does not seem to affect those cars much at all. I have an 87 and dont feel it is a handicap at all. Though on paper it is a handicap.
The driver is still the biggest single factor that controls lap times.

Yay! This was so much fun last year!

I am open to both the balance shaft delete and oil pan gasket retainer. I agree with most of whats been said about the balance shaft delete. I think Lindsey Racing even sells a kit for this.

I dont think that we will move to 205s because Toyo special made that size available for our class (Ithink). We could make a provision to allow people to use 205s?

Let's not get too deep into the debate here - save that for when the proposals are put together in their own thread. Keep this one to gathering proposals.

Given we have a weight minimum 10.1 and a power maximum 11.0 I feel the following rules are no longer needed and should be removed.
12.5 Heads and allowable shaving
13.5 computer management system
18 special transition allowance
I also agree the balance shaft module is not needed on the engine. It was designed to eliminate vibration while at idle so when sitting at the traffic light the engine was smooth and the car did not vibrate. We should disconnect the belt. This is a very easy fix to assist drivers in getting better horse power and is perfect for low cost racing as there is not cast to this change.
We should allow the movement of the battery to the passenger side rear for better corner balancing. We can also save cost with this move because a stock auto battery can be used saving the high cost of a light weight battery. We will also reduce the number of push starta due to dead batteries.
