TOPIC: Factors that decide rules changes

Factors that decide rules changes 14 years, 7 months ago #5733

Guys,
Since we are at a rules change period here are some factors that go into the decisions on rules changes. All of these need to be evaluated before a change is made

1) Enforcement - If there is a rule we need some way to enforce it. Some methods are simple some are complex. The simpler the enforcement the better chance there is for that rule.

2) Cost impact future drivers/builds - How much does it add to or reduce the cost on new guys coming in or building new cars.

3) Cost/Effort impact on current drivers - How does it impact current driver. If we change a rule and 50% of the drivers need to mod the car for it then it may not be the best thing to do. However sometimes we may need to bite the bullet for the overall good of the class.

4) Impact on equality of the cars - The rules are designed to make sure the cars are equal on track.

5) Safety impact - does it make the cars safter or less safe.

6) Class Appeal - How does the change impact the overall appeal of the class. Will it make it more attractive to new drivers. Will it make it more appealing to existing drivers.

So these are some of the factors. It may not be all the factors, but in general we will consider all of these before we make a change. Some changes may simply not be worth the effort. Other may be great, but ones where we cannot turn back the clock. The cat is out of the bag it it just too late to fix it. Others are those we need to nip before they grow and cause bigger problems.

Well said, Joe.

Of course, Big Dog would NEVER propose a rule change that did not already meet all of these tests.

You forgot one:

7) The esteemed and honorable Series and Regional Directors will take into account any personal monetary / charitable contributions from individuals or lobbyists pushing for a certain change in the rules for their sole favor. I just put a set of pork rinds in the mail for you guys!

It will take alot more than ABC slim jims and nasty pork rinds to sway the directors.

Hey, we have just the same integrity as congress. (did I just say that out loud?)
